LEI HUO
Testimonials
Nico Castel, World Famous Tenor and Diction Teacher
Mr. Huo is an exceptionally gifted lyric tenor. During his time with me at Mannes College of Music he consistently demonstrated a lyricism for Italian and French songs not commonly found among students of today. The ease, strength and clarity he exhibits in reaching High C, is unique. This musical ability as well as his singing technique makes him very suitable for tenor roles in the Italian and French repertoire.
Mignon Dunn, World Famous Mezzo-Soprano and Opera Director
Lei Huo is a multitalented tenor and gifted musician. The beauty of his voice coupled with his innate ability to directly communicate with audiences makes him a natural candidate for leading tenor roles in opera and concert performances going forward.

There is an old adage in our profession, “Not every great singer makes for a great teacher and not every great teacher is a great singer”. Lei Huo is certainly an exception to this.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Huo for more than a decade- first as a student at the Juilliard School and now as a colleague. Having studied with quite a few teachers over the years, I would venture to say that Mr. Huo is one of New York’s most important voice teachers.
There is not one vocalist from the amateur to the professional singer who has not realized the importance of keeping in touch with a good voice teacher-as we have all come to the understanding that to sustain a healthy vocal technique requires not only common sense, but careful guidance.
Over the years, I have learned more from Lei Huo than I have from any other individual within our given profession. Mr. Huo has not only been a mentor to me, he is a valued colleague, and remains a dear friend.

I have been taking singing lessons from Mr. Huo for many years now and I have benefitted tremendously from his teaching of the Bel Canto singing methodology. Over time, I come to appreciate the essence of
- Breathing to propel the voice
- Singing to guide the breathing
- Thus, the integration of singing and breathing
- Harmonizing the resonance of the sound from the chest and the head
It is also important to learn and practice on a continuous basis.

I've loved singing ever since I was a kid, but never had an opportunity to receive proper training. At the recommendation of a friend, I began taking singing lessons with Mr. Huo beginning February 2008 at the age of 59.
My lessons have concentrated mainly on vocal techniques and breathing, particularly through singing Chinese and Italian classic songs. Through these lessons, my vocal range has expanded with many more high notes than I previously had. Thanks to Mr. Huo, I can now sing with better control and for a longer period of time. The days of my voice becoming coarse after just 30 minutes of singing are gone. I can now sing with greater confidence and with an expanded vocal range. I have also learned from Mr. Huo how to discern and appreciate good singing. This has allowed me to enjoy music and singing at a much deeper level.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to Mr. Huo who I might add is not only an experienced and energetic teacher but also a world-class tenor in his own right. In taking lessons from him, I have the unique opportunity not only to learn how to sing, but to also enjoy one of the most beautiful voices in guiding my own vocal development.
